Few speakers will be found with such a long history. The foundation for the Elegant BS 312.2 was laid in 1995 with the introduction of the Elac 305. The aluminum enclosure, also called the A4 because of its corresponding dimensions, has remained virtually unchanged during that time. However, the speaker chassis used have kept evolving. In 2023, the new Elegant BS 312.2 makes its appearance, equipped with the JET6 ribbon tweeter, a woofer with even more powerful magnets and bi-wiring speaker terminals. This small speaker once again sets the standard.
Since its original introduction in 1995, ELAC has continually sought innovations to improve the JET ribbon tweeter. In 2023, ELAC will release with the JET 6, the fifth generation of this ribbon tweeter. A completely new layout of the aluminum foil tracks and faceplate has been developed for the JET 6, resulting in improved linear response in the frequency range, less distortion and a lower resonant frequency. The latter improvement offers significant advantages in optimizing the crossover filter between the ribbon tweeter and woofer.
The cone design of this speaker chassis represents the distinctive features of ELAC's top models. The cone itself is made of ultra-light aluminum, which derives its rigidity from its advanced crystal structure. In addition, the back of the cone features a cellulose cone to dampen the harsh properties of aluminum. What distinguishes the woofer in the Elegant BS-312.2 from its predecessor is the addition of an extra magnet and a larger diameter voice coil.
Consistent in every detail; the Elegant BS 312.2 monitor loudspeaker has been thought through in every respect. Its low-resonance aluminum cabinet and high-quality components - such as generously dimensioned air coils, foil capacitors and Van den Hul internal cabling - do their work invisibly. At the rear, the bass reflex pipe and opening have been re-optimized and sturdy bi-wiring connection terminals are located.
Of course, the Elegant BS312.2 can be placed on a piece of furniture with the included adhesive felts, but that does the speaker a disservice. The sturdy Alrulastic aluminum base has rubber damping material on the top with a refined structure, so acoustic feedback has no chance. The same base can also serve as an adjustment plate that can be screwed onto the LS 60 speaker stand. In turn, the Elegant BS 312.2 can be screwed onto this. A perfect base.
The Elegant BS 312.2 is supplied without grilles because a multitude of options are offered to personalize the speakers. Without a grill, this speaker is already beautiful to look at. Of course, there are also the usual black and white metal grilles, but there are also grilles with color painted plastic frames and fabric covers in eight color combinations. There will even be an online tool that lets you design the fabric yourself, whether it matches your curtains, cushions in the sofa or even your favorite shirt? Let your imagination run wild.
