A well-designed power supply is the foundation of good sound, and what is good for sound quality are linear power supplies, with their larger, high-quality and stable voltage output, smaller ripple and less noise. Because the PL50 is a high-quality linear power supply, it provides a lower noise floor, more refined dynamics and transients, and a more accurate, warmer tone at lower frequencies.

Compared to switching power supplies, noise from linear power supplies is primarily low and fixed in frequency, to which human ears are relatively insensitive. In contrast, noise from switching power supplies is higher in frequency and can easily interfere with the analog portion of audio circuits due to radiation, directly affecting the output sound. Noise from switching power supplies can even indirectly affect the digital portion of audio circuits, further degrading sound quality. Since the low-frequency noise of linear power supplies has a fixed frequency, this noise can be filtered out better and more accurately. In addition, the large PL50 is also equipped with a filter circuit on the AC side, for filtering out interference caused by other electrical devices used on the same AC circuit, for even cleaner and more stable power.

Customized high-quality transformer

Toroidal transformers naturally have many advantages, making them highly efficient. This is because the coils in the transformer do not have a fixed angle at which they are bent, leading to a more even magnetic field and less magnetic flux leakage. Inside the PL50 is a custom-built 50VA audiophile-quality toroidal transformer made of high-quality Nippon Steel iron and high-purity oxygen-free copper wires for higher efficiency, higher precision, more stable voltage and higher energy output.

Fully optimized, solid components

High-quality components were chosen for every part of the design for higher and more reliable performance - such as the Shindengen bridge rectifier, fluorescent voltage regulator and Nippon Chemi-Con and Rubycon capacitors.

The PL50 has a complex circuit design that has been fully thought through to ensure reliable operation. EMI filtering, transformer rectification, voltage regulation sampling and multi-stage filtering are all parts of the circuit design so you can use the PL50 without worry.

The clear digital display clearly shows the current-voltage, so anyone can easily know what is happening with the power supply. The PL50 supports both 12V and 15V outputs, allowing it to meet the voltage requirements of various FiiO devices.
