Discover IEMs: Compact Earbuds with Great Sound
What is an IEM? An IEM (in-ear monitor) is a small earbud that fits directly into your ear. It delivers high-quality sound, blocks out ambient noise and is ideal for on the go.
IEMs are becoming increasingly popular because they offer excellent sound quality in a compact size. You can use them for music, calling, gaming or sports, without being bothered by large headphones.
Choosing the right IEM can seem tricky. Many people think of them as ordinary earbuds, something you buy quickly at the store or airport. But in reality, IEMs offer great sound and many benefits.
A key advantage of IEMs is their ability to combine multiple drivers in a compact design. Because there is no need for a large battery, headband or heavy magnets, almost the entire budget goes to what really counts: high-quality drivers, a sturdy housing, precise crossovers and solid cables.
Here are four IEMs we recommend:

Compatibility with amplifier
While headphones often require a lot of power because of impedance, IEMs require much less. You don't need huge amplifiers as with open-back planar headphones. Even high-end IEMs perform well with modest sources.
If you have a powerful headphone amplifier like the FIIO K17, you often use IEMs in low gain mode. However, that doesn't mean a good desktop amp or DAP is unnecessary - it can still improve sound quality.
A DAP with an IEM is the most logical combination. You get a compact, stylish system that you can take anywhere and still maintain excellent sound quality. Modern DAPs support streaming apps and EQ adjustments.
For example, the iBasso DX340 with an IEM such as the Shanling M8T offers the perfect balance - high-quality audio without having to turn up the volume.
A USB dongle is another excellent option for laptops or desktops. Devices such as the iBasso DC07PRO or iFi GO Link Max offer more control, detail and dynamics than standard outputs.
In short, IEMs don't need huge power, but benefit from a good source. Whether it's a high-end DAP, desktop DAC/amplifier or USB dongle, the difference is clearly audible.
