RME DPS-2

The new DPS-2 is an exceptional linear power supply that not only has impressive technical data, but also a host of unique and very useful features. For example, the compact device features two differently filtered outputs. The housing and front panel of the DPS-2 are based on the ADI-2 series, allowing RME's innovative circuit design to fit on only half rack width.

Two outputs

The Linear output is a traditional DC output, but is equipped with multi-stage passive and active filtering, including a 30,000 μF capacitor bank, a ferrite choke and an active output filter with a hybrid voltage regulator.

The second output is based on RME's proprietary μFilter technology. Here, the signal from the pre-filtered linear output is also processed through highly efficient active filters to achieve an exceptionally clean DC output with only a few µV (microvolts) of noise. In addition, the output features sensor technology, which measures and adjusts the output voltage directly on the DC connector of the included DC cable. Two DC sensor connection cables with lockable and non-lockable DC connector 2.1 x 5.5 mm (1 m) are included.

As a result, the output impedance and load regulation are extremely low, ensuring a pure output voltage of +12.0 V at a load of 2.5 A and completely avoiding load-dependent voltage drops. Please note that only one output is usable at a time.

Hum-free operation

Thanks to the additional use of both a 2-stage HF filter and a DC filter on the AC mains side, the DPS-2 delivers optimum performance without interference noise. This is also guaranteed by the 60 VA toroidal transformer with additional insulation winding and magnetic tape shielding, ensuring absolutely hum- and noise-free operation in any situation.

If necessary, the GND lift switch can be used to disconnect the DC ground from PE (protective ground) to eliminate noise caused by ground loops. In this case, safety is not affected because the primary part and housing remain firmly connected to PE of the power input. In addition, the DPS-2 comes with a ground screw terminal connector to ground other devices or to use a ground other than PE for the audio power supply.

Status display via multicolor LEDs on the front panel

The DPS-2 has two status LEDs on the front panel for a quick overview of operating modes and fault conditions (power, thermal and power overload, undervoltage, short circuit, active output). A recessed pressure switch on the front panel engages the unique AutoDark mode, where the LEDs illuminate only during fault conditions and briefly during power-up.

Another unique feature is the 24-page manual, which details technical data using many measured values, illustrated with measurement diagrams. The manual also includes background information on linear and switching power supplies.
