The new Dan Clark Audio E3 closed-back headphones deliver stunning performance and value, incorporating all the technological and ergonomic performance of their flagship headphones, but at a more accessible price point. With an all-new 5th generation driver and a groundbreaking Acoustic Metamaterial Tuning System, or AMTS, the E3 delivers true flagship performance, without the flagship cost.
On the outside, E3's striking black-and-blue aesthetic, ergonomic shape and Gorilla Glass 3-clad cups are just a taste of the exciting upgrades inside. E3 combines meticulous tuning and state-of-the-art engineering to achieve their legendary "open-back listening experience" in closed-back headphones. Precise tuning and engineering integrate Dan Clark's patent-pending Acoustic Metamaterial Tuning System (AMTS) with an all-new 5th generation planar magnetic driver to achieve a listening experience that is not only incredibly musically precise, but also amazingly fun!
A crucial feature of E3 is the enhanced AMTS tuning system, previously found only in the multi-award-winning Stealth, Expanse and Corina headphones. E3 not only brings this groundbreaking technology to more affordable headphones, but does so with a new implementation method. All headphones are subject to high-frequency standing waves, which can make treble sound harsh, fatiguing or synthetic.
AMTS is a patent-pending inline device placed between the transducer and the ear that integrates waveguides, diffusion control and resonators into one compact structure that eliminates standing waves while giving full control of the high-frequency response profile. The AMTS tuning architecture is not "one size fits all," but is tailored to each headphone to provide an optimized experience for each transducer.
The all-new 5th generation planar magnetic driver of the E3 delivers the smoothest, richest and most detailed experience Dan Clark Audio could create to date. The innovative diaphragms are made on an all-new tensioning system for more uniform and consistent performance, reduced distortion and improved consistency. Extensive research and development went into optimizing the E3's planar driver. New diaphragm materials combined with highly optimized V-Planar articulation provide remarkably smooth frequency response with low distortion across the entire listening range, for levels of detail previously found mostly in top-end electrostatics, all with exceptionally easy and fun tone. balance.
Unlike many headphones where "detail" is created by exaggerated high-frequency energy, the E3's new drivers combined with AMTS deliver exceptionally high resolution without the fatiguing distortions and harsh frequency response to which users are accustomed.
The E3 are stunning-looking headphones, from the stitched headband to the all-new Gorilla Glass 3 finish on the cups. Gorilla Glass 3 is a thin layer of alkali aluminosilicate that makes the glass stiffer and more scratch- and break-resistant, and the design of the pattern under the glass is reminiscent of the mesh of open-back headphones, a design feature that emphasizes the exceptionally open-back listening experience ambience that E3 delivers.
If you look closer, you can see holes in the glass. These holes are part of the Dual-Mode Bass Port design, another Dan Clark Audio innovation for these headphones. While it's not unusual to find a bass port on closed-back headphones, this ingenious dual-mode port delivers unparalleled control over the bass frequency response, creating a superbly balanced, impactful bass experience that's full of power yet free of bloat or midrange creep.
