A monitor loudspeaker performs best when set up on a solid, stable stand and, like a floor-standing loudspeaker, is given space. Placing a monitor speaker on a cabinet or bookshelf runs the risk of amplifying unwanted resonances. A good speaker stand stands on spikes (and, if necessary, underlay discs to protect your floor), providing much better decoupling. This translates immediately into an improvement in playback. Spaciousness, definition, stereo image and low end reproduction improve by leaps and bounds.
The height of the LS 80 is 60 cm, positioning the monitor speaker at the ideal listening height. The LS 80 weighs 7 kilograms and, in combination with the included height-adjustable spikes, stands very stable. If you want to go a step further, you can fill the standing tube with sand, for example, to nip any trace of the base's own resonance in the bud.
In most Elac monitor loudspeakers (see their features), there are screw sockets in the bottom to connect the loudspeaker immovably to the LS 80. There are screw holes in the top plate of the LS 80.
The LS 80 is painted in matte gray (same color as the base of the Navis ARB-51).
