The Japanese Furukawa PCUHD is made of high-purity oxygen-free copper wire and stands for Pure Copper Ultra High Drawability.
By combining a forming process that does not use heat-resistant materials with a post-processing process without hot extrusion or rolling processes, the product can be mass-produced in a way that eliminates inclusions and impurities. Although the product is a 4N-grade material (copper purity 99.99%), it has high formability and drawability that allows processing into superfine wires.
Oxygen is one of the most common impurities in copper products. Therefore, no gas burners are used during the production process and the inside of the equipment is filled with noble gases. By these methods, they have managed to control the oxygen to 5 ppm, which is below the standard required for oxygen-free copper.
