The sound of wood

For the first time, three different woods work together in a Grado headphone. The housing is made of a maple ferrule, hemp core and cocobolo outer ring. For decades, Grado used wood for its warm and embracing sound capabilities, but finding the right balance between three separate woods is no easy task. The reward, however, is an RS1x that opens Grado to a new level of sound.

Signature Sound

Taking everything from the new 50mm X Driver, Grado's signature sound is taken to new heights in combination with maple, hemp and cocobolo. Maple provides most of the work, hemp smooths out the top and bottom end, while cocobolo adds that extra punch. Together, the sound produced by the wood, combined with Grado's special processes, is full, dynamic and truly defined.

X Series Drivers

The RS1x is the first headphone built with the larger 50 mm X-drivers. This new speaker design is specifically tailored to the tri-wood RS1x and features a more powerful magnetic circuit, a voice coil with reduced effective mass and a reconfigured diaphragm. Redesigning these components for our 50mm drivers improves efficiency, reduces distortion and preserves the harmonic integrity of your music.

New cable and headband

Along with the drivers, the cables and headband have been redesigned for the RS1x. Housed in a more durable exterior, the now super-annealed copper 8-core cable reveals even more of your music with improved purity. The new black leather headband has a white stitched accent.

Hand-built in Brooklyn

Founded on a kitchen table in 1953, Grado Labs has been working with wood for more than a quarter century. Since then, Grado Labs has been perfecting the art of sound reproduction every day. This RS1x has traveled from workbench to workbench until it is ready for your ears. Every experience since that kitchen table has led to the creation of the RS1x.
