Dekoni Audio x HiFiMAN Cobalt

Dekoni's latest project has spawned the Cobalt: a high-performance closed-back dynamic driver made in collaboration with Hifiman. Made with the latest driver technology and masterfully tuned by Dekoni's own engineer, the Cobalt is the culmination of everything that makes listening great.

The Cobalt driver uses a carbon-coated diaphragm, which is designed so that the carbon coating can be placed anywhere on the driver. This provides an incredible level of fine tuning of the driver and gave us the perfect starting point to build the rest of the headphones around.

During testing, Dekoni experimented with placing different materials behind the driver in the ear cup. The results showed that the headphones responded strongly to changes, tending to decrease the soundstage in exchange for a deeper bass response.

Dekoni also used Hifiman's thickly padded headband, which provided even pressure on your head.

Finally, Dekoni's specialty was developed: the ear cushions. Dekoni experimented with multiple styles using Elite Series materials and high-density memory foam, and had their team test each style. In the end, they chose the Fenestrated Sheepskin pads - the combination of comfort, breathability and resulting sound was the winner for the team.

Of course, they didn't stop there: Dekoni's engineer also created a unique set of Elite Velour pads, which offered further enhanced comfort and alternative tuning more to his preference.
